Frequently Asked Questions
- What is CKY IBS?
CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS) is a Load Bearing Interlocking Concrete Block Wall system. The objective of this System is to reduce the need to use skilled workers to construct all types of walls.
This system is derived from the Do It Yourself (DIY) concept which is popular in developed countries where skilled workers are hard to come by.
This system is also similar to the “LEGO blocks”, which we are more familiar with.
- What constructing area is CKY Interlocking Blokcs (IBS) suitable for?
This system is suitable for:
Load bearing wall for all house type up to 5 storey in height
Sound bearer wall for highway and housing estate
Retaining wall
Drain wall of any height
Perimeter fence for house and bungalow
Infill wall for low rise and high rise building
Factory wall
Renovation of building
DIY construction and house extension works
Temporary building construction
Low cost housing for less fortunate citizen
- Is it a patented system?
Yes it is patented in Malaysia.
- What are the technical advantages of using the system?
It is produced in the Factory under strict factory control requirements .Each block produced will meet with the industrial standards.
All blocks are produced using G25 concrete.
Each block is accurately produced with a tolerance level of +- 1.5mm
Fire proof rating up to 2 hours
Product is fully tested and used in Malaysia.
- Do you need column and beam formwork?
No. The beam and column block provide as permanent formworks for the beams and columns construction. There is no necessity to engage the services of a carpenter for your wall construction.
- Since it is a load bearing wall, how much of steel bars can we save by using CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS)?
If CKYIBS is used to replace conventional wall design with column and beam wall, about two thirds of the original design steel bars can be saved.
- What is the speed of erecting CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS) as compared to the conventional wall?
The speed of erection is 3 to 4 times faster. It is capable of cutting down the construction time by at least 50% or more.
- Can renovations be carried out on a CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS) wall?
Yes, CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS) can be knocked down for renovation purposes.
For openings less than 1000mm (1Meter) wide, the load is taken over by the top bond beam at the top of the wall.
For bigger openings, our structural engineer would be available for further advise to suit your design need.
- What kind of foundation is recommended?
Strip footing is recommended for the wall. With the use of strip footing it would be less expensive compared to the pad footing and beam system used for brick wall.
- Do you need plastering for the completed wall?
No, there is no need to plaster the internal wall. A 3mm thick skim coat is sufficient to produce a good quality wall finish.
For the external wall, a 10mm thick cement sand plaster is recommended.
The wall can also be finished with just a coat of paint.
- What are the other Practical advantages in using CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS)?
This block gives good heat and sound insulation compared to normal brick walls. Completed building will enjoy a cooler and more comfortable environment.
- Is CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS) an environment friendly product?
Yes. We do not use timber or steel formwork to construct beams and columns. All beams and columns are provided with our special designed blocks.
- How much of blocks are wasted in the process of construction?
Wastage of blocks in the process of construction in total quantity is less than 1%. There is no cutting of blocks required during construction. All blocks required can be identified and quantified with our special designed programme.
- How do you deliver the required blocks to the site?
Blocks in the factory are palletized and ready to be transported to the site. Delivery of blocks is based on the design requirement. Our sales representative will assist you on your delivery schedule based on your construction programme.
- Can unskilled workers be trained to use the blocks?
Yes. Our company will provide you with on site training and technical support for the construction of your project.
- If we have completed our design based on Column and Beam Reinforced concrete design, can you convert the design using CKY Interlocking (IBS) ?
Yes. Our design team will be able to convert your design to suit CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS).
- How much can you save by using CKY Interlocking Blocks (IBS)?
Depending on your design, the amount saved on a wall can range from between 10% to 30%.
- How do you install M&E works?
There is no hacking of wall required. All the M&E piping can be placed in the holes provided in the blocks. More so all positions of M&E opening can be predetermined during design stage. The exact location and number of openings can be fixed based on the client’s requirements.
- What else can you save?
You can save 50% of your site overheads by cutting down on your construction time by as much as 50%.
There is little rubbish generated during construction. Saving in rubbish disposal can be substantial if timber formwork is used.
